To join us on this trip, you must raise a minimum $1,000 in supplies and/or money donations. You must also transport one suitcase of supplies on the flight to Tanzania. All donations are tax deductible, and letters can be provided for in kind donations as well.
Donations that count toward your $1,000 commitment include:
Friends-Together clinic services approximately 50 HIV-positive women a month. We provide basic health checks, available meds, and a pantry to each patient.
We opened our tailoring school in 2018 we currently have 25-30 students who complete the program in 1 year. However, we only have 18 sewing machines so the girls have to double up. We have space for 25. A singer machine with a hand-made durable cabinet for the school is $350.
Our reusable sanitary pad project is a full-circle answer to a huge problem in 3rd world countries. $15 purchases the supplies for our tailoring students to sew a complete set of reusable sanitary pads that will last a young woman a full year or more. These sets are distributed free to young women in the region. Without them, many of these young girls would not be allowed to finish school or participate in life because 7 days a month they would be home unable to leave.
Our shoe project is simple and basic kids without closed-toe shoes are not allowed to attend school under the uniform rules. So we purchase handmade leather shoes from an inmate program at the correctional institution. We provide these for our partners at Zara. The shoes are passed down as kids outgrow them. But because we have high-quality shoes made they will help several kids before they lose their worth.
